Why I Added Massage to AG Fitness & Health – Supporting Women Beyond Exercise
For years, movement was my main focus.
Strength training, Pilates, fitness classes — helping women feel stronger, more confident and capable in their bodies.
But as I moved through my late 40s and into my 50s, something shifted.
Not just in my body — but in my understanding of what women really need to feel well.
AG Fitness & Health was never meant to be “just fitness.”
It’s about supporting women as whole humans — physically, mentally and emotionally. And that’s exactly why I added massage therapy to what I offer.
Movement Is Powerful — But It’s Only Part of the Picture
Exercise is incredibly important, especially for women over 40.
Strength training protects muscle and bone. Pilates improves posture, mobility and core strength. Regular movement supports confidence, energy and independence.
But here’s the truth I see every single week 👇
So many women are already doing a lot.
They’re:
Busy
Caring for everyone else
Running on stress and adrenaline
Sleeping poorly
Holding tension they don’t even realise is there
And sometimes… adding more exercise isn’t the answer.
What’s missing for many women is restoration.
Stress, Hormones & the Body After 40
As we move through perimenopause and menopause, our nervous system becomes more sensitive to stress.
Hormonal changes can affect:
Sleep
Mood
Anxiety levels
Muscle tension
Recovery from exercise
How “wired but tired” we feel
I experienced this myself.
Pushing harder didn’t help. Ignoring it didn’t help.
What did help was learning how to calm the nervous system — not just stimulate it.
That’s where massage became a game changer.
Why Massage Matters for Women Over 40
Massage isn’t just a luxury.
For many women, it’s a necessity.
Massage therapy helps to:
Calm the nervous system
Reduce stress and cortisol levels
Ease muscle tension and aches
Improve sleep quality
Support emotional wellbeing
Help the body shift out of “fight or flight” mode
When the body feels safe, it can finally relax, repair and restore.
And that has a knock-on effect on everything — from energy and motivation to digestion, hormones and mental clarity.
Supporting Women Beyond the Workout
At AG Fitness & Health, my approach has evolved.
Yes — I still love helping women get strong, move well and feel empowered through fitness.
But I also know that true wellbeing isn’t about doing more.
It’s about balance.
Massage allows me to support women:
On days they feel overwhelmed
When stress feels stuck in their body
When exercise feels like too much
When they need nurturing, not pushing
It complements movement beautifully — especially Pilates and strength training — helping the body recover, release and reset.
A Safe, Supportive Space to Slow Down
One of the things clients often tell me is how rare it feels to have time that’s just for them.
Massage offers:
A pause
A reset
Space to breathe
Permission to slow down without guilt
For women who spend their lives looking after others, this matters more than we realise.
Massage at AG Fitness & Health in St Ives, Cambridgeshire
At AG Fitness & Health, I offer massage therapy specifically with women over 40 in mind, supporting:
Stress and anxiety
Perimenopause and menopause symptoms
Muscle tension and aches
Sleep and nervous system regulation
Overall wellbeing and self-care

It’s Not About Doing More — It’s About Feeling Better
Adding massage to AG Fitness & Health wasn’t a business decision — it was a wellbeing decision.
Because supporting women means:
Listening to what their bodies need
Honouring rest as much as effort
Understanding that strength also comes from slowing down
If you’re feeling tired, tense, overwhelmed or simply in need of time to reset, massage may be exactly what your body is asking for.
💚 You don’t have to push through everything. Support is allowed.
