Beyond The Scales Part 11: Chasing Strong Not Skinny

There was a time when my goal was simple...
Be smaller.
Lose weight. Drop a dress size. Get the number on the scales to go down.
Like so many women, I believed that was the measure of success.
But somewhere along the way, something changed.
Over the last few months, I've stopped chasing skinny and started chasing strength.
Not because I don't care about how I look—but because I've realised how much more there is to health than being lighter.
Every week I'm noticing little changes.
I'm lifting heavier weights.
Exercises that once felt impossible now feel achievable.
I'm standing taller.
Moving better.
Feeling more capable.
And yes... the muscle is slowly starting to appear.
It's not happening overnight.
There are still days when I look in the mirror and wish progress was faster.
There are still moments of self-doubt.
But then I remind myself that I'm building something far more valuable than quick weight loss.
I'm building a body that's stronger, healthier and able to carry me through the years ahead.
That's what Beyond The Scales has taught me.
Strength isn't just about muscles.
It's about confidence.
Resilience.
Energy.
Looking after your future self.
For so many years I worked against my body.
Now I'm learning to work with it.
I'm fuelling it properly.
I'm challenging it with strength training.
I'm allowing it to recover.
And slowly—but surely—it's responding.
This journey isn't about perfection.
It's about consistency.
It's about showing up, even when progress feels slow.
Because one day you'll realise you stopped chasing a number...
...and started becoming the strongest version of yourself.
Andrea's Takeaway
If you're waiting until you've "lost the weight" before you start lifting weights, believing in yourself or feeling proud of your body...
Don't.
Start now.
Because strength has a wonderful way of changing far more than your muscles.
It changes how you see yourself.
And that, for me, is what Beyond The Scales is really all about. 💜
