Beyond The Scales Part 2 The story so far......

# BEYOND THE SCALES

“Why The Scales Can Mess With Your Head After 40”

The conversation more women need to hear 🩷

There’s something I’ve realised lately…

So many women are carrying around frustration, guilt and disappointment because of a number on the scales.

And honestly?

I think years of dieting culture have conditioned us to believe our worth, success and progress all come down to body weight.

Lose weight = doing well

Gain weight = failing

But what if that’s not the full story anymore?

Because as women move through their 40s and 50s… things change.

Hormones change.

Recovery changes.

Sleep changes.

Stress levels change.

Muscle mass changes.

Fat distribution changes.

And suddenly the things that “used to work” don’t seem to work anymore.

That’s exactly why I started my own Beyond The Scales journey.

Not because I’m obsessed with weight loss…

But because I wanted answers.

I wanted to understand why:

I was training consistently

Eating well

Prioritising protein

Staying active

Showing up…

…and still feeling frustrated with my midsection, body composition and how hard fat loss suddenly felt.

So I decided to stop beating myself up… and start getting curious instead.

The scales don’t tell the full story

The scales cannot tell you:

How strong you’re getting

How much muscle you’ve built

Whether your energy has improved

If your sleep is better

How much fitter you feel

Whether your confidence is growing

How much more resilient you’ve become

How consistent you’ve been

And they definitely can’t tell you what’s happening hormonally inside your body.

Yet so many women let that one number determine their mood for the entire day.

I’ve done it myself.

And honestly?

It’s exhausting.

Menopause changes body composition

One of the biggest things I’ve learned recently through my hormone testing journey is this:

Post-menopause fat loss can genuinely feel harder.

Not because women are lazy.

Not because they lack willpower.

Not because they’re “not trying hard enough.”

But because:

Oestrogen drops

Muscle mass naturally declines

Recovery slows down

Stress impacts the body differently

Fat storage often shifts more towards the middle

Which means the old “eat less and do more cardio” approach can actually leave women feeling worse… not better.

So what actually matters now?

For me, this journey has become about so much more than weight.

It’s about:

Building strength

Protecting muscle

Improving health

Managing stress

Supporting hormones

Feeling energised

Future-proofing my body

Feeling confident in my own skin again

And maybe most importantly…

Learning not to let the scales define me anymore.

Maybe you’re not failing…

Maybe your body is changing.

Maybe you need a different approach now.

Maybe your body needs support, nourishment, strength training, recovery and consistency… not punishment.

That’s the conversation I want more women to start having openly.

Because I know I’m not the only one feeling this way.

And if you’re reading this thinking: “OMG this is exactly how I feel…”

Please know this:

You are not broken.

You are not lazy.

And you are definitely not alone 🩷
