Maybe It’s Time We Had A Different Conversation About Women’s Health Over 40…

I’ve gone backwards and forwards about posting this because, honestly, it feels quite personal.

And part of me wondered:

“Will anyone even care?”

“Will anyone relate?”

“Am I just oversharing?”

But deep down, I think this conversation is important ❤️

Because over the last year or so, I’ve found myself feeling increasingly frustrated with my body.

And that’s hard to admit as someone who works in the fitness industry.

I train hard.

I move regularly.

I eat well.

I prioritise protein.

I do all the things we’re supposedly told should “work.”

Yet despite all of that, I’ve still struggled with:

- changes around my midsection

- energy dips

- recovery feeling slower

- hormone changes

- feeling uncomfortable in my own skin at times

And if I’m really honest…

There have been moments where the scales have completely affected my mood.

(I actually don’t weigh myself anymore because I realised how much power I was allowing a number to have over me.)

But I know — hand on heart — that I cannot be the only woman over 40 feeling like this.

So Many Women Are Exhausted

Exhausted from:

- starting another diet every Monday

- eating less and less

- chasing a smaller body

- punishing themselves with exercise

- feeling guilty around food

- comparing themselves to who they were 10 or 20 years ago

- feeling like they’re somehow “failing” because their body has changed

And honestly?

I think a lot of women are quietly struggling.

Especially in midlife.

Because nobody really prepares you for how different your body can suddenly feel.

Maybe The Problem Isn’t Us

What if the problem isn’t a lack of willpower?

What if the problem is that women over 40 are still being sold the same old fitness and diet messages that were never designed for this stage of life?

“Eat less.”

“Do more cardio.”

“Burn more calories.”

“Shrink yourself.”

But what if our bodies are actually asking for something different now?

What if instead of constantly trying to become smaller, we focused on becoming stronger?

Maybe We Need A Different Conversation

One that focuses on:

- strength

- energy

- confidence

- muscle

- hormones

- longevity

- resilience

- feeling GOOD again

Not just weight loss.

Not just a number on the scales.

Because the older I get, the more I realise health is about so much more than being lighter.

It’s about:

- waking up with energy

- building strong bones and muscles

- supporting hormones

- protecting our future health

- reducing stress

- improving confidence

- feeling capable

- feeling mentally stronger

- future-proofing our bodies for later life

What I’m Learning

I’m learning that:

- More punishment isn’t the answer

- Eating less isn’t always the answer

- Stress impacts everything

- Recovery matters

- Sleep matters

- Muscle matters

- Walking matters

- Nervous system health matters

- Consistency matters more than perfection

And perhaps most importantly…

I’m learning to stop fighting my body and start working WITH it instead.

This Is Just The Beginning

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to be sharing more honestly about:

- my own journey

- what I’m struggling with

- what’s helping

- what I’m learning

- hormones

- menopause

- strength training

- mindset

- body image

- health beyond weight loss

Because I know I can’t be the only woman feeling this way.

And maybe by opening up about it, it helps another woman feel a little less alone too ❤️
