Friday Round Up - Exercise Is Magic

Friday Reflection: Movement Really Is Magic ✨️🫶💕

Some weeks feel smooth and energising.

Other weeks require a bit more strength just to get through the day.

This week has definitely been one of those for me.

Last week we lost our gorgeous dog Milly, and if you’ve ever lost a pet you’ll know just how deeply it can affect you. She was part of our family. Since then, I’ve experienced a real mix of emotions — sadness, anxiety, overwhelm, and moments where even the smallest things have felt difficult.

Grief has a way of creeping into places you don’t expect.

And if I’m honest, there were moments this week where the thought of standing in front of a class and teaching felt really hard. My energy was low, my mind was busy, and part of me just wanted to hide away for a while.

But I still showed up.

And do you know what helped me more than I can explain?

Movement.

Exercise has always been a huge part of my life, but weeks like this remind me just how powerful it really is — not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.

We All Know the Physical Benefits of Exercise

Most of us already understand the physical benefits of moving our bodies:

Improved strength

Better fitness and endurance

Increased mobility and flexibility

Weight management

Better heart health

But the mental and emotional benefits are just as important.

How Exercise Changes the Way You Feel

When you move your body, amazing things happen in your brain and body.

Exercise helps to:

Release endorphins (your natural “feel good” hormones)

Reduce stress and anxiety

Improve mood and mental clarity

Increase energy levels

Improve sleep

Build confidence

For me this week, teaching my classes helped shift my energy completely.

The music.

The movement.

The energy in the room.

The laughter and connection with others.

Group exercise has something really special about it. When you move alongside others, there’s a shared energy that lifts everyone. It becomes about more than just the workout — it becomes community, support and connection.

It Doesn’t Have to Be Intense

One of the biggest misconceptions about exercise is that it has to be extreme or exhausting to make a difference.

It really doesn’t.

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is simply:

Go for a walk outside

Get some fresh air and sunlight

Stretch your body

Join a supportive class

Move to music you love

Even ten or twenty minutes can completely change how you feel.

Walking in particular is something I recommend often. It’s simple, accessible and incredibly powerful for both your physical and mental wellbeing.

Sometimes You Have to Move Before You Feel Like It

The tricky thing is that when your mood is low, when you’re feeling anxious, stressed or exhausted, exercise can be the very last thing you feel like doing.

But often, that’s when it helps the most.

Sometimes you have to gently push yourself to start.

Not to punish your body.

Not to “beast” yourself in a workout.

But simply to shift your energy and reconnect with yourself.

More often than not, you’ll finish feeling lighter, clearer and stronger.

A Reminder for the Weekend

If this week has felt heavy for you too, take this as a little reminder.

Move your body this weekend.

Go for a walk.

Try a class.

Stretch.

Dance in the kitchen.

Just move.

You might be surprised by how much better you feel.
