Why Losing Weight Too Fast Isn’t a Good Thing — Especially for Women Over 40
Let’s talk honestly about fast weight loss and medications like Mounjaro.
I know it’s tempting — the idea of losing weight quickly can sound appealing, especially when you’ve tried everything and feel like your body just isn’t responding anymore. But here’s the truth…
👉 Losing weight too fast is not good for your long-term health, your metabolism, or your muscle.
🚨 The Problem with Rapid Weight Loss
When you drop weight too quickly — whether that’s through extreme calorie restriction or medications like Mounjaro — you don’t just lose fat. You lose muscle too.
And for women 40+, that’s a big problem.
After 40 (and especially during perimenopause and menopause), our natural muscle mass already starts to decline. Losing even more through rapid dieting can:
Slow your metabolism 💤
Increase the risk of injuries and falls
Lower your strength and energy levels
Make it harder to keep the weight off long-term
Muscle isn’t just about tone or strength — it’s your metabolic engine, your hormone regulator, and your vitality bank.
⚖️ The Smart Rate of Weight Loss
A good rule of thumb for healthy, sustainable fat loss is around 1% of your body weight per week, or roughly 1 lb (0.5 kg).
That might sound slow, but it’s what allows you to:
✅ Keep muscle mass
✅ Maintain energy
✅ Build habits that actually last
✅ Feel good along the way
💊 About Mounjaro and Similar Medications
Medications like Mounjaro (a GLP-1 agonist) can reduce appetite and make it easier to stick to a calorie deficit. But many people start on doses that are too high, eating too little, and losing weight too fast.
This can lead to:
❌ Muscle loss
❌ Nutrient deficiencies
❌ Hair loss
❌ Fatigue
❌ Difficulty maintaining results once off the drug
There are new versions coming out, including tablet forms that are less potent — which might actually be a good thing. They take the edge off appetite rather than completely eliminating it. Because honestly, feeling a little hungry is normal — and it makes food so much more enjoyable when you do eat!
💡 If You’re Using Mounjaro…
I’m not against these medications. Used properly, with the right support, they can help some people find their footing again.
But if you’re relying on the drug alone and not supporting your body with movement, strength training, and nutrition — that’s when problems start.
If you do choose to use it:
💪 Keep weight training consistently
🍳 Eat enough protein
🥦 Prioritise nutrient-dense foods
💧 Stay hydrated
😴 Get quality sleep
🧘♀️ Manage stress
This isn’t just about losing weight — it’s about protecting your health, your muscle, and your long-term strength.
🔄 Think Beyond the Scales
If you’re doing everything right — eating well, exercising, sleeping better — but your weight loss feels slow, that doesn’t mean it’s not working.
If you’re maintaining or even building muscle while losing fat, the scales won’t drop as fast — but your body composition is improving dramatically. You’ll be leaner, stronger, and healthier.
Let’s reframe weight loss to body recomposition — losing fat, maintaining muscle, and building strength from the inside out.
🧠 The Long-Term Game Plan
If you’re considering Mounjaro (or any similar medication), ask yourself:
✨ What’s my plan long-term?
✨ How will I maintain my results once I stop?
✨ Am I supporting my body with strength, nutrition, and care?
Because if you come off these drugs having lost significant muscle, you’ll be in a tougher spot — slower metabolism, less energy, and harder to rebuild what’s been lost.
❤️ My Message to You
I’m not anti-Mounjaro.
I’m pro-health, pro-strength, and pro-sensible choices.
If you’re a woman around 40–50 and navigating hormonal changes, your muscle is your best ally. Protect it fiercely!!!
And if you’re thinking about using (or already using) these medications and want to do it the right way, I’m here to help you.
Drop me a message — I’d love to hear your experience and support you in staying strong, healthy, and empowered 💫
